Definition of USB

USB stands for Universal Serial Bus (Bus Universal Serial, in Abbreviationfinder website). It’s a concept from computer science to nominate the port that allows you to connect peripherals to a computer .

The creation of the USB goes back to 1996, when a group of seven companies (including IBM, Intel and Microsoft were) developed the format to improve the capacity of interconnection of technological devices. USB, in contrast to other ports, does not require reboot of the System to recognize the connection of peripherals (has a higher capacity, plug-and-play or connect-and-usa).

The USB is able to detect and install the necessary software for the operation of the devices. Unlike other types of ports (such as PCI), there a high bandwidth for data transfer, which is a disadvantage in certain cases.

The keyboard, mouse or mouse, digital cameras, scanners, printers and mobile phones are some of the peripherals that can connect to a computer through the USB port.

All this without forgetting other peripherals equally important as the case, for example, the video cameras, DVD recorders would be external, portable hard drives, pendrives, musical devices such as the MP3´s, joysticks, steering wheels, or webcams.

Currently, there are four types of USB ports that are differentiated according to their speed of data transfer. The USB 1.0 has a maximum of 1.5 Mbps transfer rate and is used in devices such as the mouse and keyboard. The USB 1.1 can achieve a transfer rate of up to 12 Mbps, while the USB 2.0 up to 480 Mbps. USB 3.0, finally, is in stage of development and could achieve a transfer rate of 4.8 Gbps.

USB 3.0 can determine that not only is ten times faster than its predecessor, but also significantly reducing energy consumption. And it should not be overlooked that, similarly, decreases the time that is necessary to carry out the corresponding transmission of data. Reasons all of them who have done that at the moment that has become the most requested.

However, we can not ignore the existence of what is known as a USB memory stick. This is a device of small size that is used to store a large amount of information through what is known as system Flash. That is also called pen, pendrive, memory stick or memory, among other key.

Nowadays the USB stick has become one computing device most used by the citizens of the world. And is that you can take with you a lot of information in a small device of limited dimensions, low weight and, therefore, easily transportable.

Up to 1 TB of data can be stored a pendrive which is connected through a USB connector to a mobile phone, tablet or laptop, for example.
