Before entering fully into the meaning of the term healing, it is necessary to discover its etymological origin. Specifically, we can state that it derives from Latin, from “curatio”, which can be translated as “healing action” and that it is the result of the sum of two well-differentiated parts:
-The verb “curare”, which is synonymous with “care”.
-The suffix “-cion”, which is used to indicate “action and effect”.
The concept refers to the act and result of curing : getting a person who was injured or sick to recover their health.
Healing, thus, is the process of restoring health. To achieve this restoration of organic balance, the patient must undergo a treatment that can be developed in different ways according to the disease or illness in question.

A surgical intervention, the supply of drugs and the application of some therapeutic element ( bandage, plaster, etc.) are some of the actions that can be carried out to achieve a cure. Repair and regeneration or replacement of damaged tissues is often required.
Suppose a young man is the victim of a robbery and suffers an injury to his arm: the thief cuts him with a knife. The wounded person goes to a hospital, where a nurse is in charge of the first treatments, which consist of cleaning the wound and suturing to promote subsequent healing. Once the surgical stitches are applied, she places a bandage on him. Healing will continue with monitoring of the wound, changing the bandage regularly, and cleaning the scar to prevent infection.
It is important to keep in mind that a healing can go beyond the physical and focus on the psychological aspect. A psychologist or a psychiatrist, in this framework, can get an individual to resolve a psychosis or a neurosis, achieving an existence without pathological alterations.
However, the term in question is not only used within the field of health but also within the agri-food industry sector. Thus, for example, it is used to refer to what is known as the ham curing process.
Specifically, this process takes place from the moment the pig is slaughtered until the final product, the ham, is obtained and goes on the market. However, above all, it refers to that stage in which the piece is subjected to salting, in which it is turned so that it acquires the salt on both sides, in which it is washed and settled as well as in which it proceeds to drying is undertaken.
Exactly the drying is carried out in a place, called drying room, where there are specific conditions of humidity, light, ventilation and temperature. In this way, it is how the best ham will be obtained. And all thanks to that long process that usually lasts between two and three years.
